Environmental matters
Taste Cornwall as part of the CGOS family of Companies, reflects the ethos and traditions of its parent company.
The taste of the products on sale, the freshness of the raw produce, and the care taken in the production of the preserves are all matters which our shop manager takes very seriously. The organic vegetables are grown on smallholdings, small farms, community led farms all adhering to the rules of the Soil Association. Other fruit and vegetables come from smallholdings where fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides are kept to an absolute minimum and this maintains the flavour and texture of naturally grown produce.
The preserves in the shop are made from locally purchased ingredients or from home produced fruit and vegetables. The recipes are as granny made them and so there is no preservative or other contaminating chemical ingredient.
As Taste Cornwall's parent company CGOS encourages the preservation of our native breeds of livestock and it follows that this meat takes longer to grow and mature, fresh meat in the shop is flavoursome and the staff will be able to talk to you and refer questions to the producer concerned. Should you require a larger order, next time one of the farmers has stock in for butchery please do not be afraid to place an order.
The milk used in all dairy products sold in the shop comes from local Dairy Farms and is processed in entirety in the Duchy.
Only Cornish made alcohol is sold in the shop, and all the apple juice is locally made from apples from local orchards.
In our shop sustainability and recycling are adhered to with all due diligence. Our surplus cardboard is flattened, packed and recycled. All paper is shredded and forms part of the packaging process for all hampers. The wooden cabinets were made from wood from sustainable forestry and the wooden floor carried the appropriate certification. All the packaging we use comes from businesses who have the same environmental ideals that we have.
